What to wear: May 07 – Jessica Mack

Chata Romano gives tomboy, Jessica Mack, a sophisticated new look.

About Jessica

Jessica Mack, 27, works in a law firm where most of her colleagues dress stylishly every day, and she tends to feel frumpy. Jessica says she has always been a bit of a tomboy and wanted a makeover that would give her a more elegant look for work, as she didn‘t know where to start.

Chata chose clothes for Jessica that do wonders for her figure. The most important tip Chata gave Jessica was to make sure clothes fit the widest part of her body. She suggested Jessica buy one size bigger to accommodate her hips, then take the waist in. Jessica instantly looked a dress size smaller. ”The clothes were very different – I would never have chosen them and felt really fab in the suit,” says Jessica. “I love my new haircut: it‘s easy to maintain and quite versatile. My colleagues absolutely love my hair and the false eyelashes were a big hit!”

Smart

The shawl collar gives a more feminine look than  a structured jacket, and offers a great neckline for narrow shoulders. Monica jacket, $220.

A sash or wide ribbon highlights a small waist.

Victorian oversized rings are very fashionable, but avoid them if you have short, wide hands. Target ring, $12.95.

Tapered skirts are more slimming than wide A-line skirts. Country Road pencil skirt, $179.

Evening

Want a fuller bust? Buy dresses with a built-in padded bra. Opt for a soft ruffle instead of a fitted dress if you have a rounded abdomen. La Voca dress, $199.95.

Coordinate your accessories. Emma Page bracelet, $102; Portmans ring, $12.95; Jendi clutch, $55.

Choose a mid-knee length if you have full knees (avoid wearing short skirts).

Casual

Choose a stylish shaped denim jacket with trendy stitching detail instead of a bulky oversized denim jacket. Trent Nathan at David Jones jacket, $159.

Opt for a T-shirt in a fun, bright colour and team it with a smart bag to match. Sportscraft top, $59.95.

I love your fashion makover section and would love to be a reciepient of a makeover. I turned 60 this year and even though it is said that 60 is the new 50 I don't feel that this applies to me. I retired a few years ago and always felt that I knew what clothes suited me but since then I have found it hard to adopt a 'smart/casual' style to suit retirement. Being a 'larger lady' today's fashions end up making me look like the mischellin man as I hate layered clothing and prefer a more sophisticated look. Can you help

I am soon to be 50 - scary thought, but happily have been told I don't look my age, nor feel it but would love to have a makeover . A working Mum of a 10 year old daughter I am stuck in a rut and would love a new look to start the next half century of my life.

The makeovers really seem to suit each persons style perfectly. The look really great but never uncomfortable with their new looks. I'm a 32 year old first time Mum fowith an 8 month old daughter. I have to return to work soon but still haven't lost all my pregnancy weight. I haven't found a style which I feel suits my new body & makes me feel good about it. I would love your advice.

I would love nothing more than a chance to experience a makeover with your stylish and fabulous crew.

I am on the brink of 38 years old and a mother of two. I dont get out alot as I have a sick baby daughter. As she is still small she needs full time care and as a result of this I feel like I have neglected myself somewhat. I definately need a new look, everything from hair to wardrobe.

Can you help me???

I have a lovely neighbour who has had a really hard time of things lately and I feel in my heart to apply for a makeover on her behalf, she could really do with a bit of spoiling! She's late forties, works very hard and is the sort of person who puts everyone else needs before her own.

I have NO IDEA how to dress for my new figure, and seem to be stuck looking at the larger size clothes 'cause I know they suit me. I am a 14-16 now, and would love some help sorting out what to wear! Thanks, and looking forward to the next edition of Notebook:.

I have jsut read your December Magazine which I loved and would like toapply for a makeover. I am a size 14 - 16 and have this year become a stay at home mum due to my daughter having a rare illness. I have lost all confidence in myself and the ability to shop for clothes that look good and flatter my shape. Next year I am turning forty and am desperate for a new look.

Yes, I would love a makeover since I have no idea if I am coming or going. I feel I have lost my identity since having had kids and I really strugle with maintaining a particular style... made worse by the fact that my latest hair style (of yesterday) is a disaster! Please help me re-discover myself and stop wasting money on trying to find a style to suit me. Thank You - K B Faranda

Will this article never go away? I love the magazine, but the makeover was a disaster. I look about 15kg bigger than I am, and about 10 years older than I am! The clothes were too big and had to be pegged at the back and I received no advice on colours or clothing, despite contacting Chatta several times after the event.

Just wanted to have my say.......
