How to knit a Lincraft scarf
Scarves don’t have to be restricted to the winter months – a pretty scarf in a lightweight material can be a chic addition to a spring outfi t, and also makes a lovely gift for a friend or family member. Avid knitters swear by the relaxing benefits of ‘knit one, purl one’, so why not give it a go yourself? To make it even easier for you, Lincraft is giving all Notebook:readers three free balls of yarn from their gelato-coloured Flutter range. What you will need
3 balls of FLUTTER by Lincraft yarn
1 pair of size 7mm needles
Crochet hook for scarves with fringe
Scissors
1. Basic scarf
Cast on 22 stitches
Knit in garter stitch (all rows knit stitch only) until two and a half balls are used (or length required)
2. Fringe on the ends only
To make the fringe fold the remaining yarn around a 20cm piece of cardboard or a book approx 40 times, cut at one end. Using two strands together at a time, fold in half making a loop. Insert the crochet hook into the end of the scarf, fold the centre of the yarn over the hook and pull through, then place the ends of the fringe through the loop and pull, therefore each tassel should have 4 strands. Repeat this evenly along each end of the scarf

3. Fringe on 3 sides
Instructions as in option 1 but only knit 2 balls length
Make the fringe as in option 2 but use the whole of the third ball of yarn.
Using 1 strand at a time insert fringe as in option 2 to each end and along one length.
4. Striped scarf
Cast on 22 stitches as in other options, knit 4 rows of colour one, 4 rows of colour two and 4 rows of colour three leaving the beginning and ending threads loose at the side. Repeat until all three balls are used. Trim the self made fringe to an even length.

| I love the concept that you have brought together all my favourite magazines in one fantasic value package. Congratulations. Even my husband has been flicking through it! As and expectant mother, can I suggest a small section of your fashion section be given over to how the current trends could be worn by pregnant women? Otherwise we have to go 6 months without feeling fashionable. |

| My Mum knitted a scarf for me recently with some yarn that looks quite similar to the Lincraft Flutter range, kind of baby-soft and really fluffy. She knitted another one, carefully selecting the perfect colours, and sent it to my sister who is living in London. What a thoughtful gift to pass on to friends and family. | Wonderful articles in your launch issue. The Lincraft Flutter scarf is a winner, very feminine with its beautiful pastel shades that would complement all skin tones and ages. Website a pleasure to browse through. Magazine definitely value for money with excellent down to earth articles. As other readers have so rightly pointed out, paparazzi journalism on the plastic brigade out there in gaga land is (happily) not the main selling feature we are constantly bombarded with ad infinitum. | I love every bit of your magazine and website. I have not been buying magazines lately as they all seem to be the same old same old, but WOW yours stood out on the news stand. I even bought a copy for my best friend. We have one tiny problem - we live on an island off the coast and getting to Lincraft for our free wool is rather difficult. | The photography, paper, and general presentation of this mag has all my friends talking (even overheard the girls in Lincraft when I collected my free wool singing it's praises). | Love the magazine and can't wait to knit a scarf BUT I live in Bairnsdale 3 hours from the nearest Lincraft store - Help- Its not fair. I'm sorry but it is frustrating to buy magazines with great free offers (and you do have some great ones) but I am unable to get them. Couldn't something be organised by mail- I'm sure country readers would not mind paying postage to get the "free" offers. |

| i loved your magazine. To the amusement of my three year old and five year old kids i tried for hours (looking back i must have looked like a complete idiot) to fly a kite. i must admit that i was just as amused watching them trying to fly the kite. Lucky for us our next adventure is trying to simply make a herb garden. Wish us luck because i am sure that we will need it. Imagine me trying to fly a kite, with two kids running along screaming you can do it, thats it nearly. I hope that puts a smile on your face. |

| I picked up this magazine by chance and what a surprise. So great to see a magazine which combines so many different topics. A multi faceted magazine for interesting people to read. Not a celebrity in sight! Most of us real people are far more interesting anyway. Keep up the good work. |

| Instructions say free yarn is available up until 6 September (tomorrow), but the competition terms and conditions say it is available until 20 Sepember - which is correct? The latter, I hope! Also, why presume that everyone knows garter stitch? It does say "learn to knit" in the magazine, but doesn't show how! "That my granny should have showed me is not a good enough answer, as I'm sure many people's grannies didn't. More details in future please.PS - I wonder how many of these fantastic compliments are written by the employees of FPC magazines - they all seem just a bit too glowing, and well written to be genuine, methinks - just the eternal cynic in me speaking (hell, the mag isn't THAT good!) |
