Tucked away in the stunning foothills of New Zealand wine country, this architecturally designed cottage makes the most of its setting with huge picture windows, outdoor dining area and a pool. Its rustic board-and-batten style is reminiscent of river cabins and coastal baches, but inside the decor has a contemporary and luxurious feel, with locally sourced furnishings creating a cosy atmosphere.

Country style
Exposed rafters are a simple and informal approach to the design of this cottage.

Neat hedging
Terracotta pots look great in any landscape. Pittosporum ‘Golf Ball’ grows into a round shape and is an ideal hedge plant.

Al fresco
Outdoor table and chairs from Peak Outdoor Furniture; Mare pavers from Stevenson.

Under cover
This ground cover (Acaena inermis purpurea) grows well under the external support beams.

Picture perfect
Large windows are positioned for views of nearby vineyards. Western red cedar windows from Stephen Jensen Cabinetmakers.
