You don‘t have to sacrifice practicality to achieve a sleek, streamlined look for your kitchen. The owners of this home wanted a kitchen that was timeless, elegant and family friendly, so they invested more than $40,000 to make their dream a reality.

In a household with three children under 10 years old, a family-friendly kitchen is a necessity. So when it came time to renovate this outmoded kitchen, Duchenne Designs, the kitchen designer, included a breakfast bar where the children can play or do their homework, and the parents can keep an eye on them while they cook.

To keep surfaces clutter-free, the kitchen includes custom-made storage with deep shelving and a cleverly designed pantry with a sliding door, which allows easy access but doesn‘t impede on the busy work area.

In order to create the illusion of space, the wall to the adjoining dining room was removed. Duchenne Designs chose a neutral colour scheme and all the surfaces, from the dishwasher to the benchtops, were coordinated to enhance the streamlined look. Finally, the addition of attractive yet low-maintenance timber flooring and CaesarStone benchtops make this kitchen perfect for a busy family that likes to live in style.

Efficient kitchens are designed around a ‘working triangle‘ – the oven, sink and fridge should all be within a few steps of each other.

CaesarStone is a composite material made from a combination of natural quartz and polyester resins – the result is a highly durable, heat-resistant surface that won’t scratch or stain.
Composite benchtops are now available in a large range of colours and, unlike timber and stone, they don’t need sealing, which makes them extremely low maintenance.
