Scientists believe the ‘scuttle’ factor drives our reflexive disgust when confronted by a cockroach. Those of us in warmer climes know this is also a very sensible reaction to the tyranny of infestation. By the time you see one, they’ve already built a city and brought their relatives with them. With German or Oriental cockies, there’s no getting around the need to call in the exterminators. Professional gel applications are particularly effective, however, many of us still seek natural solutions.
Thanks to one of our dedicated Notebook: forum members, shopperdeb24, we’ve got a great alternative. Simply mix a handful of cloves with a handful of epsom salts in a shallow dish and place under their favourite hiding spots, such as dishwashers, fridges, sinks and washing machines. Just to be sure, a few drops of clove oil in corners and cupboards should keep them away, too.
