The good oil: growing mint

Mint is more than merely a herb. Its strong fragrance is a sign of the powerful oil extracted from its vibrant, green leaves. Traditionally used for digestive ailments such as nausea, cramps and hiccups, menthol is the magic ingredient of this plant. Ideally suited to both indoor and outdoor propagation, even the brownest thumb should be capable of keeping mint alive. Suggested varieties include: common garden mint, chocolate mint and eau de cologne mint.

Growing tip

Mint is a rampant grower, so it’s best to keep in a pot or container. Grow in a moist, shady spot.
