Couture for tots

You can personalise kids’ tees to suit their tastes, and it’s a fun and inexpensive project for a weekend.
You will need
100 per cent cotton singlets, washed and ironed; fabric paints, mini paint rollers (from art supply stores); piping cord, ribbon (from Spotlight); foam sponge, cardboard, glue, scissors, felt pen, potatoes, knife.
- For the scooter singlet, draw a scooter on the sponge, then cut it out and glue to cardboard. Use roller to coat with paint, then print on to singlet.
- For the lollipop, paint cardboard with glue, then twirl piping cord on glue to create a lollipop. Once dry, use roller to coat with paint then print on to singlet. Stitch a ribbon bow to lollipop stick.
- For the rocket, halve potatoes and place on paper towels to remove moisture. Draw a design on to the flat side of one piece then carve out the area you don’t want to print. Use roller to coat with paint then print on to singlet. Repeat to make other shapes.
Hint
Once the singlets are dry, set the paint using an iron on medium heat.
