Decorating tip: fabric-covered tins
Find a use for old tins and brighten up a corner of your home by covering tins in fabric and using them for kitchen or home office storage.
You will need
Old tins; tape measure; ruler; pencil; fabric scissors; artist’s spray adhesive; lengths of fabric (heavyweight upholstery fabrics are good, as they don’t fray as much as regular fabrics).
Step 1.
Wash your tins well then peel or scrub off labels. Allow to dry.
Step 2.
Use your tape measure to measure the height and circumference of each tin. Use a ruler to trace the shape on to a length of fabric then cut out. Spray wrong side of fabric with artist’s adhesive then gently smooth over tin – fabric should sit just below the lip of the tin, where the wrapper would have been. Use tins to store utensils or pencils and pens.
